Your privacy on social networks and on the Internet in general

Social networks are very popular nowadays. Many people spend more than 8 hours a day on it. One of the most popular networks is Facebook. It seems that on Facebook and other social networks your privacy is absolutely safe and nothing can be dangerous for you. But this article will give you much more opportunities to look inside this network and to change your view on it.
There is too many information on Facebook and sometimes it can burst in your life. If you like to add photos from parties and events that sometimes are not decent, do you want your employer or school administrator to see it? Remember, that if your photos are open then everyone can watch, save and send them. Often employers check web sites which their future employees use. Also your parents, school administrators and other important people can accidentally find your profile and be unpleasantly surprised.
Moreover, if you leave your personal information open you can be found by scammers, thieves, your enemies and etc. If you don’t want to face with these accidents you should always be sure that your telephone number, e-mail, address and other personal things are open only for friends. Be careful with viewability of your photos and videos. Turn off the location feature if you don’t want people to find you anywhere. Change your passwords once a month or twice a month. Don’t use the same passwords in other networks, especially, the same with Facebook.
The whole Internet is not safe as you can think. I reviewed only a small part of it – social networks, and took Facebook as an example of well-known networks. But you should pay attention to the whole Internet and to your privacy on it. Remember, that there are «cookies» – files that save your web-story, that follow you everywhere on the Internet and sometimes are used by hackers to get your private information. If you want to avoid violations of your privacy, you can follow my ideas:
• Check web-sites and links carefully if you want to register on them or just want to switch to another site that has strange reputation, and if you do want to register there you must set a very difficult password, especially, when you use there your private personal information.
• Pay attention to files that you download. Often they are full of viruses.
• Set strong different passwords for sites and social networks and change them as often as you can.
• Don’t visit «pirate» sites.
• Use only proven network connection (not public wi-fi in cafe or subway).
• Be careful with privacy settings and don’t ignore them.
